Early Sporting Career
Mahmoud Nikpour began his sporting journey in skating at the age of seven in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, Iran. Due to the high cost of specialized skating equipment, however, he was unable to enter competitive skating disciplines until the age of 20.
At the age of 20, Nikpour began his specialized career in freestyle skating. His strong interest in figure skating later led him to change disciplines and pursue figure skating as his main sporting career.
In 2013, he began training in figure skating at Enghelab Sports Complex in Tehran. In 2014, he competed in the Iranian National Open Championships and, after winning the title, was invited to the national team training camp.
International Competitions
Following his invitation to the national team camp, Nikpour made his first international appearance at the 2014 Asian Championships in China.
Throughout his competitive career, he has represented Iran in national and international competitions. Some of his notable achievements include:

One of the highlights of Nikpour’s international career was his fifth-place finish at the 2019 World Roller Games in Barcelona, Spain. His result is recorded in the official World Skate results. (worldskate.org)
International Training and Development
Alongside his competitive career, Nikpour has participated in international training camps and educational programs to further develop his technical and coaching skills.
He has attended training camps in Turkey under the supervision of Turkish champion and coach Eryol Kutay, as well as training programs in Spain under internationally renowned coaches and champions, including Javier Fernández, Tracy Wilson and Brian Orser.
Coaching, Judging and Education
In addition to his career as an athlete, Nikpour has been active as a figure skating coach, judge and instructor.
He has worked in the development and education of figure skating in Iran and has been involved in training athletes and conducting educational programs. In 2025, he also worked with Iran’s national ice hockey teams to improve players’ skating skills and technical abilities. (انجمن هاکی روی یخ ایران)
Management and Development of Figure Skating in Iran
In 2026, Mahmoud Nikpour was appointed Head of the Iran Figure Skating Committee.
During his tenure, several programs have been introduced with the aim of developing and organizing figure skating in Iran. These initiatives include the introduction of the YAKH Figure Skating Judging System, educational programs introducing figure skating, and the organization of national-level skating assessments under the title “Flight of the Dolls.”
The first edition of “Flight of the Dolls” was organized as part of the development of national figure skating activities in Iran, with Nikpour serving as the head judge of the competition.
Ice Shows and Public Performances
Nikpour has also been involved in ice shows and public performances aimed at introducing figure skating to a wider audience.
Among these performances are special Christmas and Nowruz ice shows held at the Iran Mall Ice Rink in Tehran. These events have contributed to promoting figure skating as both a competitive and performing art in Iran.
He currently continues his activities as a figure skating coach, judge and instructor, while also working on the development and expansion of figure skating programs in Iran.
